The ALS League Belgium is a non-profit organisation. We rely entirely on gifts, donations and the proceeds of actions. This means that we are completely dependent on the good will of others and on the events we organise ourselves. Consequently, every donation, big or small, counts!
Amyotrofe Laterale Sclerose is een neurologische aandoening waarbij het belangrijkste kenmerk is dat de motorische zenuwcellen in het ruggenmerg, de hersenstam en de motorische schors van de hersenen afsterven. Daardoor ontstaat progressief krachtverlies en verlamming, die uiteindelijk tot de dood leidt van de patiënt door verlamming van de ademhalingsspieren.
De oorzaken en het exacte ontstaansmechanisme van zowel de erfelijke als de sporadische vorm van ALS zijn onbekend. De ziekte is altijd dodelijk en tot op heden bestaat er nog steeds geen behandeling.
Bekende personen bij wie de diagnose ALS werd gesteld zijn onder anderen Nora Tilley en Stephen Hawking.
The ALS League Belgium is a non-subsidized national organization which does everything in its power, both nationally and internationally, to promote the interests of the patients with ALS (pALS). We do this by sensitizing the public’s opinion and making scientific research accessible. We organize actions and events in order to continue funding this research through “A Cure for ALS”. We offer help in various forms to our pALS, on a physical level as well as on a mental and social level.
Goals
A Cure for ALS is the research fund of the ALS League Belgium, every donation to this fund goes integrally to scientific research. There are at any time several research projects that the ALS League Belgium takes care of. The donations are collected in a central fund and the ALS League Belgium decides which project deserves financial support at that moment. As there is still no treatment for ALS, scientific research is of the utmost importance.
The MaMuze fund of the ALS League Belgium wants to make sure that pALS do not end up in social isolation. The care that ALS entails is very heavy and mainly takes place in the home situation. We try to offer pALS the possibility to participate in a social life as pleasantly as possible. The care centre Middelpunt plays a crucial role in this and is multifunctional in terms of accessibility together with the support of the MaMuze fund. Contact moments are held here every year and numerous activities are offered.
ALS M&D offers quick access to various kinds of aids that aim to continuously guarantee quality of life for pALS . There are mobility aids, such as manual and electric wheelchairs, walkers and a scooter. We also provide communication aids that help with speech loss and aids of all kinds such as bath/toilet aids, transfer aids, care aids and all kinds of small aids.
Donations
You can choose between a one-time donation and a monthly donation to become a structural donor of the ALS League Belgium. We guarantee absolute safety with regard to your bank details. We regularly post updates on the evolution of your chosen project on our website or through our Facebook page, so don’t hesitate to follow us.

For every deposit of €40 over a whole year, you will receive a tax certificate the following year. In Belgium, donations of €40 or more per year entitle you to a tax reduction of 45%. This means, for example, that a donation of €100 will only cost you €55.
